Summer Safety Initiative

Throughout the summer months, Community Safety Team Members will be actively engaging with young residents who demonstrate positive, safety-conscious behavior in their daily activities. Whether it’s using designated crosswalks, wearing bicycle helmets, helping maintain a clean environment, or simply making responsible choices, these actions will not go unnoticed.

Participants who exemplify these behaviors may be rewarded with a “Safety Ticket,” which can be redeemed at HWY 42 Café for a complimentary scoop of Hershey’s ice cream. While the reward is certainly a highlight, the true purpose of the initiative lies in reinforcing good habits and creating positive interactions between youth and public safety professionals.

“This program gives us a unique opportunity to connect with our community in a positive and engaging way,” said Ryan Jordan, Director of Community Relations & Safety. “It’s about recognizing the small actions that make a big difference and encouraging our youth to take pride in keeping themselves and their community safe.”

The Summer Safety Initiative not only promotes awareness but also strengthens relationships between residents and Community Safety Team Members, helping build trust and familiarity in a relaxed, approachable setting.

With a limited number of Safety Tickets available, officers will be on the lookout all summer long for those who lead by example. It’s a simple concept with a meaningful impact—combining education, engagement, and a sweet reward to make safety a community-wide priority.
